Safe Dating Tips
Last updated: 4 October 2026
Meeting someone new should feel exciting, not risky. Besito is built with safety in mind, but you know yourself best. Here's how to look after yourself, from the first hi to the first date and beyond.
Chatting online
- Never send money. Not for a ticket, a medical bill, a "business opportunity" or an emergency, however real the story sounds. Anyone who asks for money, gifts, crypto or investments is a scammer: report them.
- Keep personal details to yourself until you know someone: your home or work address, daily routine, phone number, social handles, and anything that could identify where you live.
- Stay on Besito at first. Scammers often push to move to WhatsApp or Telegram quickly, where we can't help you.
- Look for the rose tick. Selfie-verified members have shown us they look like their photos. If someone refuses to verify or to video call, be careful.
- Video call before meeting if you're unsure. A short call tells you a lot.
- Trust your gut. Pressure, inconsistencies, or anything that makes you uncomfortable is a reason to stop. You never owe anyone a reply.
Around You and Crossed Paths
- A hi is not an invitation to walk over. If someone accepts your hi, chat first. Only meet in person when you've both clearly agreed to.
- Never follow or look for someone because the app showed they're nearby. Besito never shows exact locations, and using it to find someone is against our rules.
- Control who can reach you. In Around You you can choose who may send you requests, for example verified people only, and you can turn it off anytime.
- Pause Crossed Paths by switching off background location in Android settings whenever you'd rather not be counted.
Meeting in person
- Meet in a busy public place, like a café, restaurant or mall. Never at someone's home or a hotel for a first date.
- Tell a friend who you're meeting, where and when, and share your live location with them.
- Get there and back on your own: your own ride, the metro, or a cab you booked. Keep your phone charged.
- Stay in control. Know your limits with alcohol, and never leave your drink or belongings unattended.
- Leave whenever you want. You don't need a reason. If you feel unsafe, ask staff for help or call 112.
Consent and intimacy
- Consent must be clear, freely given and ongoing. It can be withdrawn at any time, and silence or a past yes is not consent.
- Never pressure anyone, and never share intimate images of someone without their permission: it's a crime under Indian law.
- Talk openly about protection and sexual health before things get physical.
If something goes wrong
- Report and block in the app: open the profile or chat, tap the menu, then Report. Our team reviews every report, and the person isn't told who reported them.
- Email us at [email protected], especially if you've been threatened, scammed or assaulted.
